What are fibre type and fibre category?
- Fibre: Single conductor that guides the light waves. The individual fibres together form the core of a fibre optic cable.
- Fibre type: Groups the fibre optic cables into single-mode (transmits light of one mode) and multi-mode (transmits light across several modes).
- Fibre category: Categorises the fibres of a fibre optic cable (OS2 or OM1 to OM4). The higher the OM category, the higher the data transmission rate and the greater the distance. OS2 fibres offer the highest transmission properties by far.
