LAPP expands logistics in Ludwigsburg

Stuttgart logistics centre to be integrated

LAPP is expanding and modernizing its logistics center in Ludwigsburg. It is the largest single investment in the company's history.

Stuttgart, 28 June 2023 - The largest single investment in the company's history: The LAPP Group is planning a comprehensive expansion and modernisation of its logistics centre in Ludwigsburg, close to the A81 motorway. Once the construction work is complete, the 50-year-old logistics centre in Stuttgart-Möhringen will be completely transferred to Ludwigsburg. LAPP expects to be able to offer all of its current 110 permanent employees a job in Ludwigsburg.

"Ludwigsburg will be the hub of our logistics operations throughout Europe, with an investment in the high double-digit million range. A clear commitment to Germany and the Stuttgart region as a business location," says Matthias Lapp, CEO of the LAPP Group. "Highly efficient, highly automated, sustainable and with maximum availability for our customers - that is our vision." The Stuttgart-based global market leader for integrated solutions in the field of cable and connection technology wants to lay the logistics foundation for its growth strategy.

As part of the large-scale project, new halls will be built on the existing site, and the entire layout will be fundamentally optimised and the level of automation significantly increased. Construction work is due to be completed in 2026.

Integration of the logistics centre in Stuttgart-Möhringen planned

The expansion in Ludwigsburg has an impact on the LAPP Group's oldest logistics centre in Stuttgart-Möhringen, just under 30 kilometres away. This has been in operation for 50 years and the three-storey building no longer meets the logistical challenges of today. The Management Board of the LAPP Group has therefore decided to start planning the integration into the Ludwigsburg operations. The move will take place after the construction work there has been completed.

LAPP fulfils its social responsibility

With the merger, LAPP is fulfilling its social responsibility as a family business: According to current plans, all of the approximately 110 permanent employees who currently work in Stuttgart logistics will be offered a job in Ludwigsburg. "They can expect a modern and ergonomic working environment there. Increased automation means that many manual and physically demanding tasks are no longer necessary, but thanks to our growth there is still plenty of work," explains Matthias Lapp.

For Matthias Lapp, CEO of LAPP Group, the major project is a clear commitment to Germany and the Stuttgart region as a business location.

For employees who do not wish to move to Ludwigsburg, there should be alternatives, e.g. further training programmes or a transfer to other LAPP companies. The details will be discussed in talks with the employee representatives of U.I. Lapp GmbH, to which both logistics centres belong.

A plus in efficiency and sustainability

In addition to efficiency gains, the merger of the two logistics centres also promises a significant increase in sustainability, says Matthias Lapp: "Fewer consolidation trips, fewer partial deliveries, shorter transport routes: the CO2 emissions of our logistics processes will be significantly reduced and the volume of traffic in the Stuttgart city area will also decrease."
