MOBILITY DOCK from LAPP wins two more prizes
German Innovation Award in Gold & Sustainability Award in Automation
Stuttgart, 21 March 2022 - Charging electric vehicles will be even easier from April. The Lapp Mobility GmbH - a corporate start-up from LAPP - is launching the MOBILITY DOCK onto the market. Even before its market launch, the innovative charger had already won several awards.
The MOBILITY DOCK is a space-saving charger that can be used in combination with any type 2 charging cable (charging mode 3). It allows charging an electric car from a standard household socket. This means that e-car drivers need fewer different types of charging cable. This saves space and weight in the boot and makes charging easier and more convenient.
Space-saving, mobile charging station
"Our MOBILITY DOCK fully fulfils the function of a mobile charging station, but requires significantly less space in the boot", says Frank Hubbert, Managing Director of Lapp Mobility GmbH, describing the new new product. Communication from the MOBILITY DOCK to the vehicle takes place via a control unit integrated in the charger, which sets the charging current up to a maximum of 10A and also monitors the charging process. This achieves a charging power of up to a maximum of 2.3 kW, and the setting is automatic. The device monitors the appliance temperature and the temperature at the household socket. If an increased temperature is detected at the mains plug, the charger automatically regulates the charging power to prevent overheating. Further protective functions for the user include earth conductor monitoring and the detection of direct current and alternating current faults in the charger. Such direct current and alternating current faults are recognised and protected up to 6mA DC and 30mA AC. The MOBILITY DOCK is CE-compliant and has been developed and tested in accordance with the IEC62752.
Simple and safe handling
To start the charging process, the Type 2 charging cable (also known as the Mode 3 charging cable) is plugged into the type 2 socket of the MOBILITY DOCK. The MOBILITY DOCK with the charging cable is then plugged into the household socket and off you go. An LED indicates the device status. All components are absolutely stable and firmly anchored. A support is integrated on the side of the appliance to support it on the building wall, which is unlocked by pressing a push button. This is used for fine adjustment of the support on the building wall. The plugged-in type 2 charging cable is locked via a mechanism on the housing and can be unlocked using the release lever located on the back. This means that the type 2 charging cable can be pulled out of the charger with little effort.
Thanks to the type 2 socket integrated in the housing, the MOBILITY DOCK is compatible with the European charging cable standard and can therefore be be used on all electric and hybrid vehicles in Europe. The housing of the MOBILITY DOCK is splash-proof (IP44) and designed for for falls from any position from a height of 1 metre. With its weight of approx. 750g and a size of 255x135x105 mm, the MOBILITY DOCK is space and weight optimised. The device can be stored in a space-saving way in the boot, loading floor or side pockets of the vehicle. The cover cap for the type 2 socket additionally protects the charger from dirt.
Several prizes for the MOBILITY DOCK
The innovative MOBILITY DOCK, which was presented last September at the IAA MOBILITY in Munich, already won two important prizes before its market launch; the German Design Award for its design and the EMOVE 360 AWARD for its functionality. For its added value compared to previous solutions, it was also nominated for the German Innovation Award for its added value compared to previous solutions. The announcement of the winners is still pending.
