Thinking innovatively, acting sustainably

"As a family business that is driven by the search for forward-looking solutions for future generations, it is our duty to treat the resources of people and the environment responsibly. For us, looking at the impact of our work and our products is part of the development of promising innovations. Sustainable thinking influences our decisions every day. We tackle the challenges we face together – with the ideas, expertise and strength of all our employees."

Matthias Lapp, Chairman of the Board at Lapp Holding SE

Our understanding of sustainability

LAPP is a family-owned business. We think long-term and act responsibly – for our employees, for our customers, for our suppliers, for the environment and for society. Sustainability is an integral part of our global corporate strategy and culture. In this way, we are making an effective contribution to the future of coming generations and the preservation of our planet.

For us, economic success is always linked to social and ecological commitment. Sustainable, environmentally friendly management and the responsible use of all natural resources are important criteria for all our company decisions. People play a central role in this. We take our responsibility seriously and see ourselves as an active part of an environment and society worth living in. LAPP cultivates a strong understanding of respectful and compliant business behaviour, which we implement worldwide.

We are convinced that we as a company must set a good example so that future generations can also find a planet worth living on. With this in mind, LAPP has set itself ambitious goals in the areas of environment, products & innovation and employees & society.

Our sustainability goals

Sustainability is one of five overarching goals of the Strategy 2027. We have set ourselves the following milestones with regard to our sustainable actions, which are firmly anchored in our strategy and are therefore an integral part of all business processes. These are regularly checked for compliance.

  • 30 percent reduction in CO₂ emissions (Scope 1&2, base year: 2022) at company level by 2027
  • Development of a holistic circular economy strategy

  • The product carbon footprint is to be reported for all key product groups

Our commitment to sustainability

We align our sustainability activities with the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. Five of the seventeen SDGs in particular influence our work for sustainable economic activity at an economic, ecological and social level: health and well-being, decent work and economic growth, industry, innovation and infrastructure, sustainable consumption and production, and climate protection measures.

As a globally active company, we comply with guidelines, laws and material-related regulations at German and European level, as well as the specific requirements of our American and Asian sales and production regions.

We use the materiality assessment to identify processes with relevant negative and positive effects as well as risks and opportunities in environmental, social and economic areas.

Initiatives & co-operations

The Charta der Vielfalt e.V. is Germany's largest employer initiative for the promotion of diversity in the workplace. Around 6,000 companies and institutions have signed the Diversity Charter to date and are committed to an appreciative and unprejudiced working environment. LAPP signed the Diversity Charter in 2022 and participates in realising the Charter's goals, e.g. with an annual Diversity Day.
The Copper Mark is a globally recognised standard for responsible copper production. As part of the certification process, various sustainability criteria from the areas of compliance, child labour and occupational safety, among others, which are defined in the Risk Readiness Assessment of the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI), are audited externally by an independent body. LAPP has been a supporter of the initiative since 2023 and is involved in various working groups. As a copper processor, LAPP cannot yet be certified by The Copper Mark.
In 2023, LAPP joined the WIN Charter of the state of Baden-Württemberg, a sustainability management system. As a WIN Charter company, LAPP has committed itself to the twelve guiding principles of the Charter and submitted a target concept containing information on sustainability management as well as intended targets and measures. In 2024, LAPP submitted a WIN Charter report providing information on the implementation status of the measures achieved to date.
JOBLINGE e.V. pools the commitment of business, the state and private volunteers to make it easier for young adults with poor starting conditions to enter working life. The aim is to increase equal opportunities on the path to vocational training. Matthias Lapp has been an honorary member of the supervisory board of JOBLINGE e.V. for many years. In addition, LAPP employees support the young people on a voluntary basis on their path to training and work.
The non-profit organisation Kind e.V. is committed to reconciling family and career. Kind e.V. Stuttgart was founded by companies and works councils of the Vaihingen-Möhringen Economic and Industrial Association. The initiative offers children a safe and loving environment in company-run nurseries, where they are cared for and encouraged. Kind e.V. works closely with companies that are also committed to reconciling work and family life. LAPP has supported the association for many years.
