Environment
At LAPP, we place great importance on sustainable business practices and the responsible use of natural resources. To reduce its own CO₂ emissions, LAPP is working to optimise the energy and resource consumption of its buildings and plants. The heart of LAPP beats in production, development and administration. When planning, constructing and operating buildings, LAPP takes energy and resource considerations into account, amongst other things. This also includes identifying the largest energy consumption sources and subsequently optimising consumption.
Since 2019, LAPP has been purchasing 100 percent green power in Germany – supplemented by its own photovoltaic and geothermal systems. At numerous international LAPP locations, electricity is also generated from renewable energy sources using its own photovoltaic systems. The majority of LAPP’s production sites and sales companies are certified to ISO 14001. Twenty of our companies in the EMEA region work closely together on energy management as part of an ISO 50001 matrix certification. Consistent quality management in accordance with ISO 9001 ensures the high quality standards of LAPP, which primarily focuses on products with a high level of reliability and robustness.
Our environmental target is to reduce CO₂ emissions (Scope 1&2, base year: 2022) at company level by 50 percent by 2027.
As we move towards a climate-friendly future, we are also focussing on our value chain. In the spirit of the circular economy, LAPP is working with partners to further develop products and processes in order to avoid waste and reuse resources.
Shorter transport routes, efficient shipping processes
Our global logistics centres continuously coordinate which products are manufactured in which plants around the world and in which logistics centres they are stored, depending on their suitability for our global or local portfolio with regional considerations. This ensures shorter transport distances and efficient shipping processes thanks to sophisticated digital logistics solutions.
We are constantly exploring ways to optimise packaging – which is essential for protecting our products and ensuring they are transported safely – to reduce material usage and utilise suitable recycled raw materials. Thanks to internal initiatives, LAPP has reduced its plastic packaging material and increased the proportion of recycled raw materials.
Save packaging, reduce hazardous waste
Among other things, the thickness of the plastic film used by LAPP for packaging its cable products has been reduced from 80 to 70 µm.
Thanks to linerless labels, which do not require a silicone-coated backing film, hazardous waste can be avoided. In addition, LAPP offers a collection service for the return of reusable solid wood drums. We also work with an external partner who recycles solid wood drums that are not suitable for reuse by using a special wood press and prepares them for reuse. The recycling cycle helps LAPP to keep timber materials in circulation and significantly reduce the volume of waste.
In addition to our individual projects, we are exploring ways of embedding the principles of the circular economy within our organisation.
