Environment
At LAPP, we focus on sustainable, environmentally friendly management and responsible use of natural resources. In order to reduce our own COâ‚‚ emissions, we attach great importance to the resource-saving operation of our buildings and plants. The heart of LAPP beats in production, development and administration. We are constantly working on planning, constructing and operating buildings sustainably. This also includes identifying the largest energy consumption sources and subsequently optimising consumption.
Since 2019, LAPP has been purchasing 100 percent green power in Germany – supplemented by its own photovoltaic and geothermal systems. At numerous international LAPP locations, electricity is also generated from renewable energy sources using our own photovoltaic systems. Almost all LAPP production facilities and a large proportion of its distribution companies are ISO14001 certified. Twenty of our companies in the EMEA region work closely together on energy management as part of an ISO 50001 matrix certification. Consistent quality management in accordance with ISO 9001 ensures the high quality standards of LAPP, which primarily focuses on products with a high level of reliability and robustness.
Our environmental target is to reduce COâ‚‚ emissions (Scope 1&2, base year: 2022) at company level by 30 percent by 2027.
As we move towards a climate-friendly future, we are also focussing on our value chain. In the spirit of the circular economy, LAPP is working with partners to further develop products and processes in order to avoid waste and reuse resources.
Shorter transport routes, efficient shipping processes
Our global logistics centres continuously coordinate which products are manufactured in which plants around the world and in which logistics centres they are stored, depending on their suitability for our global or local portfolio with regional considerations. This ensures shorter transport distances and efficient shipping processes thanks to sophisticated digital logistics solutions.
In addition, we are always on the lookout for ways to optimise packaging, which is essential for the protection and safe transport of products, and to save material, for example by using a high proportion of recycled material. Thanks to internal initiatives, LAPP has reduced its plastic packaging material and increased the proportion of recycled raw materials.
Save packaging, reduce hazardous waste
Among other things, the thickness of the plastic film used by LAPP for packaging its cable products has been reduced from 80 to 70 µm.
Thanks to linerless labels, which do not require a silicone-coated backing film, hazardous waste can be avoided. In addition, LAPP offers a collection service for the return of reusable solid wood drums. Solid wood drums that are not suitable for reuse are recycled and reprocessed using a special wood press. Thanks to this recycling cycle, LAPP saves four times its wood disposal costs.
In addition to the promising individual projects, we have set ourselves the goal of developing a holistic circular economy strategy.
