Digitalisation for modern data centres

Complete solutions and project management for data centres

The amount of digital data generated worldwide is growing from year to year. In 2015, for example, the global server stock totaled around 58.8 million units. By 2022, this figure will be around 85.6 million. Data centres are playing an increasingly important role in this development as the backbone for the highly available provision of digital services. This raises the question of how the gigantic volumes of data in increasingly complex data centres can be transferred quickly and stably - but also how the energy infrastructure between the individual components of the data centres can be guaranteed. As an established system provider, LAPP is in a position to offer comprehensive, high-performance solutions from a single source for the growing requirements resulting from digitalisation - from planning to product selection and just-in-time delivery directly to the construction site.

On the safe side: Norms and standards

Standards provide guidelines for manufacturers, installers and inspectors to ensure that data and electricity flow safely, efficiently and reliably, for example by ensuring that cables and electrical lines meet quality and safety standards. Connection solutions from LAPP comply with these standards. An overview of the key standards.

VDE (Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies)

VDE is a German association that develops standards and guidelines for electrical and electronic products. VDE standards cover various aspects, including safety, performance and installation of cables and electrical lines for power and data connections.

IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission)

The global non-profit commission is active in more than 170 countries and develops international standards for electrical engineering, electronics and related technologies - with the aim of ensuring the safety, efficiency, reliability and interoperability of electrical installations in data centres, for example.

BS (British Standards)

The national standardisation body in Great Britain was the first of its kind in the world. Their standards include guidelines for various aspects of connection technology, which are similar to IEC standards, but may also contain specific requirements for the UK market.

LAPP develops high-quality cables and components for the growing challenges associated with digitalisation, for example. Highly complex data centres in particular require fast and reliable transmission in cables that are metal-free, interference-free and tap-proof. At the same time, fibres, cables and components must be of the highest quality to ensure trouble-free operation. This includes the use of halogen-free, low-smoke and flame-retardant cables. The best conditions for maximum safety in terms of building, property and personal protection in data centres are provided by the consistent use of halogen-free cables with optimised fire behaviour. The safety potential can be increased by using cables with additional insulation or functional integrity.
High-quality products and easy assembly are crucial factors when it comes to selection. If one of the cables becomes brittle or malfunctions, it affects all the other cables from the same drum. Since new installations and removals can be very expensive in this case, investing in durable and high-quality material is worthwhile in the long term.
Data centres are subject to stringent requirements designed to guarantee increased controlled safety in the event of fire (CPR classification). This also applies to the cabling. Among other things, properties relating to fire spread, heat emission and smoke development are analysed. Cables and accessories must also be halogen-free and have other flame-retardant properties - but at the same time fulfil the high performance and quality requirements.

We have a broad portfolio that guarantees you complete solutions from a single source - all based on our decades of manufacturing and project expertise. We are constantly developing our products and services. Striving for the greatest possible durability, robustness and extreme flexibility is what drives us. Thanks to special sheath materials, LAPP solutions are flame-retardant and halogen-free, thus reducing the risk of flame propagation, high smoke density and toxic fumes in the event of a fire.

The transfer of energy and the high resistance heat up cables and plug connectors, the constant change between hot and cold due to heating during operation causes cables and plug connectors to become brittle. In close co-operation with users, the TÜV and the North American UL approval institute, a large number of tests and performance tests were carried out with our ÖLFLEX® cables and SKINTOP® cable glands. This enables us to guarantee our quality standard. Our products are suitable for use worldwide and, of course, RoHS-compliant.

Can't find the right product for your needs? Together, we can develop individual solutions, tailor-made for you. Our experts would be delighted to advise you.

Incidentally: expert knowledge is vital not only in the selection of the components used, but also in the assembly and correct use of the components. We would be happy to support you on site here too.

Everything from a single source. With us as your partner from idea to realisation. Our project business team will be happy to advise you on the planning and implementation of the electrical installation for your new data centre.
